🌌 Echoes of Legacy: Al-Thurayyā (The Pleiades)

"The Seven Heaven Stars of Guidance".

High above the night sky lies a cluster of stars known as Al-Thurayyā (Pleiades) — admired by sailors, farmers, poets, and seekers of truth. In Islam, Al-Thurayyā carries deep symbolism, connecting us to knowledge, guidance, and the wonders of Allah’s creation.

📖 Qur’an & Hadith Connection

Allah says:

> “It is He who made the stars for you so that you may be guided through them in the darkness of the land and the sea.”

(Surah Al-An‘am 6:97)

Rasulullah ﷺ said:

> “If the religion were at Al-Thurayyā (Pleiades), even then a man from Persia would reach it.”

(Sahih Muslim)

This hadith highlights how distant knowledge — as high as the stars — will still be reached by those whom Allah guides.

Al-Thurayyā is more than a star cluster; it is a reminder of Allah’s signs. Just as travelers once followed it to find their way in deserts and seas, we too can follow the light of knowledge and faith to guide our hearts through the darkness of this world.

The stars are not just ornaments of the sky; they are lessons of guidance, humility, and wonder. They whisper that even the most distant wisdom can be reached by a sincere seeker.

The Pleiades (M45 / Messier 45) star cluster is located within the constellation Taurus. It’s one of the brightest and closest open clusters to Earth, making it easy to see with the naked eye.

Aldebaran 🌟 is the brightest star in Taurus (the "eye of the bull"). It looks like it’s near the Pleiades, but actually it’s much closer to Earth (about 65 light-years), while the Pleiades are ~444 light-years away. So it’s just a line-of-sight illusion.

M45 (Pleiades) is not just seven stars — there are over 1,000 stars in that cluster, but usually we only see the seven brightest (hence “Seven Sisters” or Al-Thurayyā).

In the sky map, you’ll find Taurus by looking for Orion’s Belt first. If you follow a line through Orion’s Belt westward, you reach Aldebaran and then just above it you’ll see the Pleiades cluster shining like a small misty jewel box.

So yes — the Pleiades (M45) sit in the shoulder region of Taurus the Bull, with Aldebaran nearby as a landmark.

May we always look up at the stars and remember that every light in the heavens is a sign pointing us back to Allah, the Light of all creation.
