Echo Bringer Chapter 6: The Sonic Pact and Knights of the Lightbringer

Chapter 6: The Sonic Pact and Knights of the Lightbringer

After the chilling quest in the graveyard, Masri and Kael'Aer returned to the guild dormitory to rest and recover. Their bodies were weary, but their spirits strong, and they knew their journey to the distant kingdom beyond the mountains would begin at dawn. As the stars glittered high above, Masri lay in bed, staring into the ceiling before opening his status window—floating mid-air with a soft, humming glow.

He scanned the skills one by one, absorbing their details. Then it struck him: all passive skills had the potential to be toggled as active—and if trained to Tier 5, they consumed no mana. A smirk formed on Masri’s lips. He activated every passive skill—Sonic Resonance, Echo Shell, Vibratic Awareness, Pulse Layering. Even in rest, he would remain alert.

With a thin but dense Echo Shell cloaking his body and another enveloping the room, he slowly drifted into sleep. What stunned Kael'Aer, meditating nearby, was not just the activation—but the fact that Masri maintained the resonance in perfect equilibrium even in sleep.

“He's asleep… with all this running stable?” Kael'Aer whispered, amazed.

Masri, though childish, annoying, and a bit ill-mannered, showed traits of a rare prodigy. Kael'Aer, equally cautious, set up his own layer of sonic defense. They both knew: death lurked close.

BOOM!

A deafening explosion shattered the night. The echo shell reacted instantly—repelling the force and hurling debris out of the dorm wall. Three cloaked assassins were launched back, failing to penetrate the double sonic layers. They retreated swiftly into the dark alleys, defeated once more.

At sunrise, Masri yawned, sitting up. “Whoa, the wall’s gone! That worked way too well.”

Kael’Aer chuckled. “You really slept through that? Impressive.”

Masri stretched. “Brother, I feel amazing! Let’s go eat, I want a new hooded cloak. Something dark lord-ish.”

Kael'Aer raised a brow. “Dark lords aren't childish.”

Masri grinned. “I’m a trickster, not a tyrant. Tricksters make people comfy... then BAM! forgotten enemy. Hahahaha—wait, I gotta practice my evil laugh better...”

And so, they strolled out—toward breakfast and the shopping district.

Cloaked and stocked with medicines, rations, and gear, Masri and Kael'Aer headed for the mountain pass. However, at the edge of town, four armored warriors blocked the path.

“We are Knights of the Lightbringer. You, Sonic Bringer, have shown excessive power. We challenge you in the name of justice,” one announced.

Masri smirked. “Fight me, sure. But if I win… you’re mine. Forever. Evil laugh.”

The knights clenched their fists. “One at a time. We fight with honor.”

The first—spear wielder infused with solar runes—charged forward. Masri dodged effortlessly with Sonic Resonance, absorbing vibrations to read movements. A precise counter-impact slammed into the knight, sending him reeling.

“Solar Ray!” the knight shouted.

Masri weaved through the light, absorbing resonance, and launched a devastating Revolver Elbow. He launched the knight into the air, followed up with an airborne Shotgun Punch in uppercut form. First knight—defeated.

Masri grinned. “Next.”

The second—a woman with dual guns—stepped forward.

“You think you’re fast?” she smirked.

Masri finger-mimicked guns. Pop! A sudden air bullet sliced a lock of her hair.

They exchanged rapid shots—light bullets vs. air bullets. Masri’s trajectory prediction gave him the edge. Dodging gracefully, he struck back with pinpoint accuracy.

She leapt into the air and charged a plasma cannon shot. Masri vanished with Sonido. Reappearing behind her, he flicked near her ear with low frequency. She fainted mid-air. He gently caught her and placed her down.

Kael’Aer, watching from a distance, nodded internally. “He could’ve ended her with a scream… but he didn’t.”

The remaining two knights, visibly shaken, helped their comrades.

“We concede,” they said. “We’ll return… and serve, as promised.”

Masri waved mockingly. “I’ll be waiting in the mountains. Don’t be late, servants.”

Kael’Aer descended.

Masri grinned. “Was that too much?”

Kael’Aer shrugged. “I was admiring the grass.”

Both laughed, and with their bond tighter and journey heavier, they set forth toward the kingdom beyond the peaks.
