Chapter 3: Task of the Boneyard of Screams
Location: The Outskirts of the Haunted Vale – Boneyard of Screams
The mist hung thick in the air, whispering forgotten names and curses. Masri stood still, eyes half-lidded, heart thrumming in tune with the quiet hum of his Sonic Bringer. At his side, Kael’Aer floated silently—wings outstretched like a guardian angel sculpted of starlight.
> Masri (inner monologue):
“Why is it always ghost missions... I just wanted a radar role and free snacks. Not a haunted castle screaming like my ex's voice notes.”
Suddenly, he raised a hand. Echo pulses burst from his palm, spreading forward like ripples on a cursed lake. Enemies—withered specters and malformed beasts—flickered into clarity across the open field ahead.
Kael’Aer’s cold expression shifted into a rare smile.
> Kael’Aer:
“Your resonance... It flows naturally. You were born for this, Sonic Bringer.”
> Masri (grinning):
“Doesn’t mean I ain’t scared of ghosts though.”
Kael’Aer soared overhead for recon, watching Masri’s every move like a hawk. Guided by Kael’Aer’s voice, Masri activated Sonic Resonance, sharpening his instincts. Blades missed by inches. Claws sliced through only afterimages. His Sonido Boots and Elbow Revolver worked in tandem—a blur of speed and raw, echo-infused punches.
With the field cleared, they approached the haunted castle looming like a dead king’s monument.
At the Entrance to the Grand Hall…
Masri froze.
> Kael’Aer:
“Why have you stopped?”
> Masri (hugging himself, trembling):
“I gotta pee... and maybe cry a little. Ghosts, man.”
> Kael’Aer (deadpan):
“You wield a weapon that dominates ghost-types... and yet this is your fear?”
> Masri:
“Doesn’t stop me from being emotionally vulnerable, Mr. Wings.”
To prove a point, Masri activated Finger Flicker. Sonic pulses rippled through the hall—shattering fragile echoes. The castle trembled. A screech echoed back. Creatures—batlike and grotesque—flew toward them.
Kael’Aer readied his Feather Pulse, but Masri lifted a hand.
> Masri:
“Don’t you believe in me, Mr. Guardian?”
He clapped his palms together, compressing air and sonic energy into a shockwave that shattered every mirror, splintered pillars, and flung the creatures back like crumpled leaves.
He then flicked his fingers like guns—childishly—shooting Air Bullets at the grounded monsters. Each one burst apart mid-screech.
Deeper Inside the Castle: The Knight Boss Encounter
The hallway expanded into a vast cursed hall. A hulking knight stood still—pale, fierce-faced, his Melody Broad Sword humming with forgotten hymns.
Kael’Aer flared up and attacked with Feather Pulse.
Masri screamed—Howl Sonic exploded from his throat, colliding with the feathers mid-air, amplifying the strike.
The boss stumbled but held his ground, swinging the massive blade. It crashed into Masri—
Echo Shell: ON
> Kael’Aer (telepathy):
“Reflect it! Use Echo Shell’s counter phase!”
> Masri (snapping back):
“Roger that!”
A sonic burst surged out, doubling the boss’s damage back onto him. But the knight charged in again—slashes, kicks, shoulder bashes—a flurry of raw, cursed strength.
Masri and Kael’Aer fought side by side, growing weary.
SYSTEM NOTIFICATION:
“Skill leveled up: Elbow Revolver ➤ Shotgun Combo Unlocked (Tier 2)”
Masri blinked. A wicked grin stretched his face.
> Masri (inner monologue):
“Time for a taste test…”
Sonido Dash! Masri zipped left, then right—disappeared—appeared beside the knight, twisting his hips and letting loose a devastating Shotgun Punch to the ribs. The knight groaned—armor shattered.
Before it could recover—Triple Whirlwind Kick—each spin echoed, the last strike cracking the knight’s head and toppling it...
...only for the knight to rise again.
BERSERK MODE: ACTIVE
It roared in agony, sword ablaze in crimson melody.
Masri didn’t blink.
Echo Shell — Sonido Combo — Shotgun Punch to the chest — Sonic Boom to the head. The final strike shattered helmet, skull, and soul. The knight collapsed, lifeforce fading.
Golden Chest Appears.
Masri sprinted toward it, excited.
But...
It didn’t open.
> Kael’Aer (sighing):
“It is sealed. Requires resonance.”
Masri kicked. Punched. Bit it. Even... licked it.
Still nothing.
He glared at Kael’Aer, and muttered:
> “I’m gonna pee on it…”
> Kael’Aer:
“Try touching it with... gentleness and Sonic Resonance.”
Masri hesitated. Then placed his palm softly—focused his energy—and the chest bloomed open.
Inside was a hauntingly beautiful armor set: Melody of the Crying Banshee
> Kael’Aer:
“Each punch, each kick, sings the cry of a banshee. It destabilizes enemy minds and bodies.”
Masri grinned and equipped it all.
At the Guild Hall – Return
The hall fell silent. Gasps. Shocked stares.
People had bet Masri wouldn’t return—or at best, arrive crawling.
Instead, Masri strode in confidently—ego high—and dropped the boss’s cracked helm on the floor.
> Masri:
“Next time, try betting on the Lord of Sonic Sinister.”
He winked.
