Episode 2: "Echoes of Mockery, Whispers of War"
[Scene: City Gates of Virellium – First Frontier City]
The gates creak open. Virellium bustles with life. Armored warriors, sly rogues, elegant mages, beastkin, androids—players and NPCs of every class.
Masri walks in, head held high, cloak flapping in the wind.
(Monologue)
"Alright, time to blend in. Play it cool. I’m edgy, mysterious, aloof. Lord Decibaal. Remember that."
Suddenly—BOOM!
A warrior slams a battleaxe into the ground right next to him.
Musclehead Warrior: “Oi! Newbie, get off the road! Sonic users belong in the backlines!”
(Monologue)
"...Did he just profile me by my aura?!"
"Wait. Is Sonic Bringer... that infamous?"
Kael’Aer lands beside him, wings folding in.
Kael’Aer: “Stay calm, Lord Decibaal. Their ignorance is not your burden.”
Masri: “Easy for you to say, you’re literally glowing with cool feathers.”
(Monologue)
"Okay. I’m definitely the underdog class."
[Scene: Job Quest Counter – Town Hall]
Masri steps up to the counter. A bored receptionist—cat-eared NPC named Nari—leans on the desk, chewing a stalk of grass.
Nari: “Name, class, purpose?”
Masri: “Lord Decibaal. Sonic Bringer. Here to register for a job quest.”
She blinks. Stares at him.
Then starts laughing. Loudly.
Nari: “Pffft—Sonic Bringer?! BAHAHAHA! You radar boys are still applying for frontline quests?!”
Behind her, another clerk shouts: “He’s probably lost. Tell him the Surveillance Guild is next door!”
A player walking by: “That’s the class that pings for bosses and gets one-shot, right?”
(Monologue)
"...So I’m a literal walking sonar in their eyes."
"Forget black sheep. I’m a sound sheep."
Masri: “I’ll take the hardest quest for a beginner.”
Nari: “You want... frontline?”
She smirks, then clicks through her interface.
Nari: “Alright, echo-boy. Try this—cleanse the Boneyard of Screams. It’s a haunted zone. Even tank parties wipe there.”
(Monologue)
"She’s sending me to my doom."
Kael’Aer: “We accept.”
Masri: “…Wait, what?!”
[Scene: Outside City – On the road to Boneyard]
Kael’Aer soars ahead, scouting. Masri walks, grumbling.
(Monologue)
"They really laughed. Like belly-laughed. I’m just trying to survive in this new world."
"But… maybe that’s the point."
"If they think I’m weak, they’ll underestimate me. If they laugh, they won’t see me coming."
"I’ll turn every snicker into silence."
He checks his new sub-quest from the town board.
