Du'a Segment – Sayyidul Istighfar (The Master of Forgiveness)

One of the most powerful du'a of istighfar, often referred to as Sayyidul Istighfar (the Chief of Seeking Forgiveness), is this one — recommended to be recited once in the morning and once in the evening:

Du'a Segment – Sayyidul Istighfar (The Master of Forgiveness)

اللّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي لا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ، وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ، أَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ، وَأَبُوءُ بِذَنْبِي، فَاغْفِرْ لِي، فَإِنَّهُ لا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ.

Transliteration:

Allahumma anta Rabbi la ilaha illa anta, khalaqtani wa ana ‘abduka, wa ana ‘ala ‘ahdika wa wa’dika ma istata’tu, a’udhu bika min sharri ma sana’tu, abu’u laka bini’matika ‘alayya, wa abu’u bidhanbi faghfir li, fa innahu la yaghfiru adh-dhunuba illa anta.

Translation:

“O Allah, You are my Lord, there is no god but You. You created me and I am Your servant, and I abide to Your covenant and promise as best as I can. I seek refuge in You from the evil I have done. I acknowledge Your blessings upon me, and I confess my sins to You, so forgive me. Surely, none forgives sins except You.”

There are many forms of istighfar, but Sayyidul Istighfar holds a special status because the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught us that whoever recites it sincerely in the morning and dies before evening, or recites it in the evening and dies before morning, will enter Paradise.

It’s not just about the words — it’s the surrender, the humility, and the connection it creates between servant and Lord. One sincere recitation a day, with the heart present, can open the door to endless mercy.

May Allah forgive our sins, soften our hearts, and keep us among those who constantly return to Him in humility and love.

Let today be the day we begin our journey of daily forgiveness — with hope, not despair.
