A beautiful du’a from the Sunnah : protection from laziness

A beautiful du’a from the Sunnah specifically addresses laziness and its spiritual weight. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) often made this du’a:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ

Transliteration:

Allahumma inni a’udhu bika minal-‘ajzi wal-kasal.

Translation:

“O Allah, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness.”

You may also include the full du’a from Sahih Muslim:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَمِّ وَالْحَزَنِ، وَالْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ، وَالْبُخْلِ وَالْجُبْنِ، وَضَلَعِ الدَّيْنِ، وَغَلَبَةِ الرِّجَالِ

Transliteration:

Allahumma inni a’udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wal-‘ajzi wal-kasali, wal-bukhli wal-jubni, wa dhala’id-dayni wa ghalabatir-rijal.

Translation:

“O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, weakness and laziness, miserliness and cowardice, the burden of debts and from being overpowered by men.”

Laziness is a subtle thief of time, purpose, and barakah. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) himself sought refuge from it, teaching us the importance of asking Allah for strength, motivation, and clarity. When we feel stuck, heavy, or lost in procrastination, this du’a reminds us to turn our hearts back to Him. It is not just a call for energy—but a cry for divine momentum toward goodness.

Let’s renew our intention every morning, whisper this du’a from the heart, and trust that Allah will replace our stagnation with purpose. Start small, stay sincere, and seek His help—He is Al-Fattah, the Opener of every blocked path.
