may this next bowl of soup bring warmth and barakah to your table. Here’s a Thick & Creamy Halal Mushroom Soup recipe that pairs beautifully with Simit or any bread.
Time: 25–30 mins | Servings: 2
Ingredients:
-200g button mushrooms (sliced)
-1 small onion (chopped)
-2 cloves garlic (minced)
-1 tbsp butter or margarine
-1 tbsp all-purpose flour
-1/2 cup milk
-1/2 cup water or chicken broth (halal)
-1 tbsp cream or 1 slice cheese (optional, for richness)
-Salt & black pepper to taste
-Optional: dried thyme or parsley
Instructions:
1. Sauté base:
In a pot, melt butter. Add onions and garlic, sauté until soft and fragrant.
2. Cook mushrooms:
Add sliced mushrooms and cook for 5–6 minutes until they shrink and brown slightly.
3. Make it creamy:
Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms. Stir for 1 min to remove raw flour taste.
Slowly pour in milk and water (or broth), stirring to avoid lumps.
4. Simmer:
Let it simmer on low heat for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally until thick.
5. Blend (optional):
For a smooth texture, blend half or all the soup. Return to pot.
6. Add creaminess:
Stir in cheese slice or cream, salt, pepper, and herbs if using.
Serve hot with simit bread, croutons, or even rice on the side.
Why it works:
No fancy ingredients, no need for heavy cream.
Full of comfort, perfect with bread, and easy on the wallet.
Can be made vegetarian or with halal chicken broth.
